South African Reserve Bank (SARB) deputy governor Kuben Naidu published a notice in the government's gazette giving this information. Guptabandhu hails from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh
Sahara Computers was the first major IT company started by the Gupta brothers' Ajay, Atul and Rajesh. Gupta is originally from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He settled at the dawn of democracy in South Africa in the 1990s under the leadership of Nelson Mandela. At the peak of its success, Sahara Computer was one of South Africa's leading IT suppliers. The company at that time had naming rights in the top three cricket stadiums in the country and was associated with many prominent sports and entertainment personalities as brand ambassadors.
Business was spread from mining to media
The Gupta family is now in self-exile in Dubai. South Africa is trying to extradite government institutions to interrogate them for their alleged role in the imposition of billions of rands. The Gupta brothers' business spanned from mining to media. In 2016, banks in South Africa refused to do business with the Gupta family companies after several irregular deals came to light. Gupta is alleged to have been involved in snatching billions of rand through close ties with former President Jacob Zuma. Former President Zuma is also facing criminal cases.
